Cuerden Hall - Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre

Client: Cuerden Hall – Sue Ryder Neurological Care Centre.

The mission was to investigate the source of main fuses blowing. Our experienced engineer carried out a visual inspection of the switch gear, including busbar chamber, 3 phases control panels, main distribution board and checked for water damage.

Challenge

Problem

The Main Utility Fuses Blown meaning the building lost all mains power. Caller advised it was due to water ingress in plant room.

Findings

  • Main isolator was unserviceable due to water ingress and was unsafe to put into service.
  • Engineer checked for water ingress, but no water was found.
  • Engineer found that the boards were damp due to the plant room being underground.
  • ADS deemed it unsafe to reinstate power supply to the building.
  • Main supply cable was undersized.

Solution

  • Old busbar chamber was stripped out and new cables installed.
  • ADS supplied and fitted new 95 ml armoured SWA from new 350-amp isolator direct to main switch board.
  • Permanent heater to be installed to keep the room warm thereby avoiding future problems with low temperature/dampness.
  • ADS liaised onsite with utilities when fuses were reinstated.
  • Test certificate issued to show building now compliant with safety regulations.
  • Test and commission new cable.

The building was fully operational within two days and client scored ADS 10/10 on the following criteria.
